Ahead of the Uganda Open Golf Championship, scheduled to start this weekend, Dr. Jackson Were, the President of the Uganda Golf Union, has delivered the message below to the golf fraternity:
It is with great pride and anticipation that I extend a heartfelt invitation to you for the 84th edition of the Uganda Open Golf Championship, scheduled to take place from August 22 to September 9, 2025, at the newly revamped Lugazi Hills Golf & Country Club.
This marks a significant milestone in our golfing history, as we venture beyond the traditional venues of Kampala, Serena, and Entebbe, to host this prestigious tournament in Lugazi. Our decision to bring the Uganda Open to Lugazi Hills is a testament to our commitment to expanding the reach of golf across the country and providing our golfers with diverse and challenging courses.
The Lugazi Hills Golf & Country Club, formerly known as Mehta Golf Club, has undergone a remarkable transformation. The 18-hole par-70 course now boasts Africa’s longest par-5 hole at 702 yards - offering a unique challenge for both seasoned professionals and emerging talents. The club’s dedication to excellence is evident in its facilities and the nurturing of young golfers, many of whom have gone on to achieve national and international success.
