Ugandan Johnson Omolo has been re-elected president of the Africa Golf Confederation (AGC)
for another four-year term.
Omolo was elected unopposed by 18 member countries during the AGC General Assembly in Tunisia,
held alongside the All-Africa Team Championship at La Foret Golf Course.
31 countries and the R&A, the world governing body of golf, endorsed his election during the largest
All-Africa Team Championship to date, with 17 nations competing.
Running on the vision of ‘One Africa, one golf’, Omolo’s victory follows 18 months of dedicated
sports diplomacy across Africa to promote Pan-Africanism. Steve Junior Oyono Elemva, based in
Paris, supported his campaign.
In his acceptance speech, President Omolo thanked Presidents Hisham Omar Tallat (Egypt), Mohamed
Aziz Fetni (Tunisia), Hessen Aboargi (Libya), Jean Marie Horaoru (Réunion), all African countries,
and his Executive Committee for their support. He also thanked Mayor Yahya Labidi of Hamamet and
Commissioner Msadak Mohsen.
"This is not my victory; it is Africa's victory. We will champion Pan-Africanism through golf."
“One Africa, One Golf! We will begin implementing our cooperation agreement with the Arab Golf
Federation to achieve our technical, financial, and development objectives for both regions,” Omolo
stated.
During his first term, Omolo took pride in uniting Africa as a sovereign continent through three years
of sports diplomacy across North, West, East, Central, and Southern Africa. He brought together 31
federations under the vision of One Africa, One Golf, and restored inclusive governance so every
region feels represented.
He also oversaw record growth in competitions, delivering the largest All Africa Team Championship
(AATC) in history, with 17 nations at La Foret Golf Course, La Soukra, Tunisia. Additionally, he
revitalised the continental calendar and increased participation from emerging golf nations.
Omolo signed a memorandum of understanding with the Arab Golf Federation, headquartered in
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, becoming the first AGC president to champion an Africa-Middle East golf
alliance.
